Community Education

In order to advance progressive coastal management initiatives, it is imperative that the public be well-informed and supportive of recommended management actions. To this end, the Baykeeper speaks regularly to local civic organizations and school groups on issues affecting Long Island's bays. Topics of discussion include:

  • the connection between land and water
  • functions and values of tidal marshes
  • effects of shoreline hardening
  • sustainable landscaping practices
  • Brown Tide
  • pollution loading from stormwater runoff
  • citizen advocacy

To date, over 300 civic and school groups have benefitted from the Baykeeper's presentations, at no charge. If your club or class is interested in inviting the Baykeeper to address some of these or other issues, please contact us: by email, or at 631-727-7346.
